Eco Service Trips

Big Muddy Adventures offers individuals, groups and organizations the opportunity to combine the beauty and power of a river trip with the adventure of eco service. We conduct “Trash Bashes by Canoe”.

Over the years, we have provided our service, talents and equipment and joined with Missouri River Relief, Living Lands and Waters, New City School River Kids, RiverVisions Leadership Project and a variety of Boy Scout Troops and other youth and community service organizations to clean the river. The responses to these Special Event trips have been fantastic. In 2009, our efforts resulted in the removal of dozens of tires and barrels as well as nearly a ton of plastic, aluminum, styrofoam, metal and cast iron. We are proud of the results, however we also realize that each person who has joined in on a Trash Bash has become a champion steward of the watershed, spreading the news that “We all Live Downstream” and need to focus our attention on the massive problem of pollution in our watersheds.

What is a Trash Bash by Canoe?

We take a section of river or an island and paddle there to locate large collections of trash and then remove it. Sounds like work? It is, but like all good work, it has a priceless payoff: the awesome experience of traveling on the Mississippi or Missouri River in canoes and the satisfaction of having done something to improve the quality of life for all creatures.
